Also sold as "Stark Saturn" (Stark Bro's holds Plant Patent #5123); "donut," "peento," "saucer," "pan tao," "bagel," and "UFO" are all used loosely for this general fruit type by various nurseries but Saturn is its own patented cultivar, distinct from Galaxy, Galactica (see separate entry), or Honey Babe. Traces to ancient Chinese flat/saucer peach cultivars. Chill hours are genuinely disputed across sources (200-300 vs. 700 hours) - flagged here rather than picked; if the lower figure is accurate this is an excellent zone 8a fit, if the higher figure is accurate it's a weaker one. Disease resistance is a real weak point, not a strength - one nursery states plainly that "donut peaches are bred for shape and flavor, not disease resistance," and Saturn specifically is noted as susceptible to peach leaf curl; the flat shape is also prone to splitting after rain and bruises easily, a real risk in Oak Point's humid, thunderstorm-prone early summers. Large, showy, early-blooming double pink flowers raise late-frost risk in a zone 8a spring.
