- Notes
- Japanese plum (Prunus salicina) bred by Luther Burbank in Santa Rosa, CA, introduced 1906. Chill requirement 300-500 hours, zones 5-9 - good fit for zone 8a; Japanese plums like Santa Rosa are well-adapted to Texas, unlike many European plums, which struggle there with fungal disease. Parent variety of the Weeping Santa Rosa sport (see separate entry) - same fruit genetics, different (weeping) tree habit.
